Whether
you need coordinated regional exclusive
stockholding or third party freelance representation
and credit control we can oblige. We design
appropriate strategies for each of our Publishers
to reach and extend markets. We use the
correct marketing channels linking you to
the customer to grow your business.
A Regional
Network
Our approach to the diversified booktrade
in South East Asia is to work with all the
key players whether chain, retail, wholesale,
non traditional outlets and match our publisher’s
strengths and potential in front and backlist.
Our distribution service – outright
purchase or consignment - covers over 1000
outlets in SE Asia including 400 in Singapore
and 200 customers in Malaysia. We arrange
direct indent – straight to established
retail – where appropriate, another
element to our versatile and flexible approach
to market.
Academic promotion
The academic market in the region presents
many opportunities for sales of both text
and reference material. APD funds its own
extensive mailing programme to academics
and librarians. We submit inspection copies
for text adoptions and attend major academic
and professional conferences, seminars and
exhibitions throughout our market area.
If there is information we don’t have
we can research for you at nominal cost.
Aid Projects
APD also has an exceptional record in selling
books through various aid projects funded
by the World Bank and other agencies. Recent
successes in this important sector include
projects for Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines
and Vietnam.
Ordering
APD stockholding is not reliant on customer
orders or exclusive stockholding. Weekly
airfreight shipments from the US and UK
to our two regional warehouses in Singapore
& Kuala Lumpur ensures maximum efficiency
and minimum delay in fulfilling orders.
We will work closely with your distribution
centre to service customer requirements
efficiently. This includes quotations, pricing,
availability and tendering in addition to
order processing.
Credit control
support
APD has an excellent credit rating and an
enviable 15-year record on credit collection
on behalf of our client publishers. We can
protect our clients from bad financial risk
and work closely with your credit teams
to ensure prompt payment. The scale of our
own distribution – in excess of S$12
million annual – ensures we have unrivalled
access to all the key accounts in SE Asia
and this assists us in collecting for Publishers
on time.
Human Resources
Exclusively focussed on SE Asia, APD has
25 staff in Singapore and 11 in Kuala Lumpur.
All senior staff have been with us for between
5 to 12 years, are highly motivated and
have built their own teams.
Your Publishing
Partner
We act as your consultants – advising
on publishing strategy, pricing, covers
and formats – so you can really learn
how to best address the market to maximise
sales and profits. We can work as a co-publisher
on titles of exceptional local interest,
sharing the risk and maximising sales. We
have an excellent record in joint product
development to exploit specific market opportunities.
The Winning
Team
Ian Pringle, MD, held senior positions at
Pearson Group and McGraw Hill before setting
up APD in 1989. Our Malaysian MD, Lilian
Koe, has been with us for 14 years. Ian
says “We have built APD on the foundation
of strong links with publishers combined
with an aggressive pan-regional sales and
distribution operation made up of seasoned
professionals. The key to our success is
having a stable team of outstanding sales
and marketing people.”
