ROWMAN & LITTLEFIELD SIGNS FOUR UNIVERSITY PRESS CO-PUBLISHING AGREEMENTS
The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group has signed exclusive co-publishing agreements with four established American university presses. They are the University of Delaware Press, Bucknell University Press, Fairleigh Dickinson University Press and Lehigh University Press. Among them, the presses have published over 4,000 titles since the 1960s.
All four university presses will continue to maintain their own publishing staff on their respective campuses. Each of the presses is overseen by an existing press director and a publishing advisory board. The presses will continue to maintain editorial control, oversee the vetting process for manuscripts submitted for publication, and choose manuscripts for release under their respective university press imprints. Once a decision to publish has been made, Rowman & Littlefield will assume responsibility for the publication process from copyediting, typesetting and design to printing, sales, marketing, and order fulfilment.
All four university presses previously collaborated in a similar fashion with Associated University Presses (AUP) of Cranbury, New Jersey. The director of AUP, Julien Yoseloff, announced his retirement in February.
Rowman & Littlefield will offer a large selection of backlist and recently published books from the presses while other books will continue to be sold by AUP.
Rowman & Littlefield will publish all new books of the four university presses with the following new ISBN pre-fixes:
1. Fairleigh Dickinson University Press: 978-1-61130
2. Lehigh University Press: 978-1-61146
3. Bucknell University Press: 978-1-61148
4. University of Delaware Press: 978-1-61149
New ISBN’s with the same prefixes as above have been assigned to the backlist titles Rowman & Littlefield has acquired from AUP.
Jed Lyons, President and CEO of The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group, said, “We have been providing publishing and distribution services of various kinds to think tanks, not-for-profit organizations, and university presses since we started the company 35 years ago. The new university press arrangement is modelled after our very successful publishing relationship with the Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press. It removes the financial burden of publishing new books, yet gives the university presses the editorial autonomy they have always counted on.”
Harry Keyishian, the Director of Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, commented, “Our new relationship with Rowman & Littlefield allows us to maintain our editorial autonomy, select books that fit our program, and eliminate all financial risk associated with publishing new books. It is an ideal 21st Century solution for scholarly presses like ours.”

Fault Lines wins
Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year award
One of the few economists to see the financial crisis coming has won the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year award.
Raghuram Rajan collected the £30,000 ($47,000) prize for Fault Lines in New York on Wednesday.
The book identifies the flaws that helped cripple the world financial system, prescribes potential remedies, but also warns that unless policymakers push through painful reforms, the world could be plunged into renewed turmoil.
Lionel Barber, FT editor and chair of the judging panel, praised Fault Lines as a “serious and sober book” for a time when “sobriety is a virtue”.
The book, published by Princeton University Press, saw off stiff competition from five others on the shortlist, to be chosen as “the most compelling and enjoyable” business title of 2010. The final intense debate among the seven judges came down to a choice between Fault Lines and Too Big to Fail, Andrew Ross Sorkin’s acclaimed minuteby- minute analysis of the collapse of Lehman Brothers.
Prof Rajan was the International Monetary Fund’s chief economist |
