The Glorious Traditions of Chinese Bronzes

Bronzes constitute a major chapter in the glorious traditions of ancient Chinese art. They were among the earliest types of objects collected by the Chinese literati in their pursuit of antiquity. It is in these vessels that learned scholars found confirmation of the importance of the Zhou rituals, the basis of Confucianist values; from the inscriptions on the bronzes they built up a body of etymological knowledge. This catalogue features the fine bronzes from Anthony Hardy’s Sze Yuan Tang collection as well as the personal collections of Anthony & Susan Hardy. Published in conjunction with an exhibition of the same name at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore.
